The Lords Resistance Army in Uganda has been abducting children in the night to make them soldiers, sex slaves, and porters. These abductions have caused children to go into the urban areas during the night to avoid being abducted themselves. These children are called “night commuters.” Non-government organizations have set up special centers for the children to go to where they can have a safe and sanitary place to sleep for the night. These abductions started in 2003 and don’t seem to be slowing down.
This social injustice is put solely onto children. Often the children are not with their parents during the nightly commute to the cities, and risk being kidnapped on the way there. The human rights of these children have been completely destroyed.
Unfortunately it seems that the only thing people who don’t live in Uganda can do to help is write letters to the government calling them out to help these poor children.
